Uglies (2024) Film İncelemesi

 "Uglies 2024" filmi, yayınlanmadan birkaç hafta öncesine kadar hiçbir şekilde dikkatimi çekmeyen, tamamen gözümden kaçan bir yapımdı. Netflix'te böyle bir filmin yayınlanacağını görünce, biraz araştırma yapmaya karar verdim. Araştırmalarım sonucunda, bu filmin bir kitap uyarlaması olduğunu öğrendim. Scott Westerfeld tarafından yazılan Uglies serisi, dört kitaptan oluşuyor: Uglies, Pretties, Specials ve Extras. Kitap serisi dünya çapında oldukça popüler olmuş ve geniş bir okuyucu kitlesi edinmiş. 

Seri, insanların doğal hallerinin "çirkin" olarak kabul edildiği ve toplumda bir yere sahip olabilmeleri için estetik ameliyatın zorunlu olduğu bir gelecekte geçiyor. Bu dünyada gençler, 16 yaşına kadar toplumdan dışlanıyorlar ve ameliyat olup "güzel" kabul edilecekleri günü dört gözle bekleyerek yaşıyorlar. Hikâye, 16 yaşına girmeye hazırlanan Tally adlı bir genç kızın etrafında gelişiyor. Konsept, ilk bakışta oldukça dikkat çekici ve ilgi uyandırıcı. Seriyle ilgili daha fazla bilgi edinmek için biraz araştırma yaptım ve Türkçe basımlarının kapaklarını inceledim. Çirkinler kitabının kapağında aslında oldukça güzel bir kız resmi vardı; Güzeller kitabında ise gözleri büyük, uzaylıya benzeyen bir karakter dikkat çekiyordu. Bu, bana toplumun güzellik anlayışının tamamen çarpık bir hale geldiğini düşündürdü. Yani çirkin kabul edilen kişiler aslında oldukça güzelken, güzel kabul edilenlerin estetik ameliyatlarla yapay ve tuhaf bir görünüme kavuşturulduğunu hayal ettim. Ancak filmi izleyince, bu derinlikte bir yorumun filme aktarılmadığını fark ettim. Estetik ameliyat geçiren karakterler, sadece bir TikTok filtresi eklenmiş gibi yüzeysel bir değişime uğramışlardı. Filmi izlerken çoğu kişi böyle düşünmüştür.

Belki ben birkaç kapaktan etkilenip kendi kendimi bir beklentiye soktum ama sonuç olarak bu durum filmde beklediğim kadar derin bir eleştiri bulamamama neden oldu- biraz da hayal kırıklığı yaşadım. Filmin geri kalanında ise, klasik bir genç yetişkin distopyası izliyoruz. Divergent, Maze Runner ve Hunger Games serilerine oldukça benziyor. Hatta bu yapımlarla aynı kaliteye sahip olduğunu söylemek mümkün. Bu tür filmlerin ortak özelliklerinden biri, genellikle oldukça ilginç bir konsept yaratmaları, fakat bu konsepti ergenlik çağındaki bir ana karakter üzerinden işlemeleri. Böylece geniş bir genç izleyici kitlesine hitap etmeye çalışıyorlar. Elbette bu stratejinin başarılı olup olmadığı tartışılabilir, çünkü kitap serileri ve film uyarlamaları genellikle çok satıyor ve popüler oluyor. Ayrıca, bu tür filmler genellikle tek kitaplık bir hikâyeyi gereğinden fazla uzatarak işliyor.

Filmin başrolünde, Netflix yapımlarında sıkça gördüğümüz Joey King yer alıyor. King’e, Brianne Tju ve Keith Powers gibi oyuncular eşlik ediyor. Özellikle son zamanlarda Türkiye'deki ekstra popülerliğini göz önüne alırsak Joey King hayranları için ilgi çekici bir yapım olabilir.

Filmde aksiyon sahneleri neredeyse yok denecek kadar az. Daha çok bir giriş filmi havasında ve olayların temellerini atmaya yönelik bir anlatı var. Buna rağmen, biraz da olsa CGI'a para harcanmış gibi görünüyor. Özellikle şehirde geçen sahnelerdeki ortamları başarılı buldum. Ancak ormanlık ve okul sahneleri hem mekan olarak hem de atmosfer açısından oldukça kasvetli ve bunaltıcıydı. Gerçi bu, post-apokaliptik bir tür olduğu için kısmen beklenen bir durum. Yine de o tür sahneler sanki hiçbir para harcanmamış ve günü birlik gidip çekilmiş hissi yarattığı için hoşuma gitmiyor. 

Eskiden bu tarz yapımları sinema salonlarında izlediğimizde, ortalama bir prodüksiyon kalitesine ve oyunculuğa sahip olsalar bile, sinematik deneyim sayesinde daha akılda kalıcı oluyorlardı. Sinema atmosferi, filmin eksik yönlerini bir nebze telafi edebiliyordu. Fakat "Uglies" bir Netflix filmi olduğu için, o sinema deneyimi de işin içine girmiyor. Dolayısıyla filmi izledikten birkaç gün ya da en fazla bir hafta sonra hafızanızdan tamamen silinebilecek türden bir yapım.

Sonuç olarak, "Uglies 2024" ilginç bir çıkış noktasına sahip olsa da ortalama bir film olmanın ötesine  geçemiyor. Ayrıca böyle bir konudan beklenebilecek derin bir toplumsal eleştiri için de biraz yüzeysel kalıyor. Yine de distopik gençlik hikayelerini sevenler için, belki de kitap serisini okumuş olanlar için izlenebilir bir seçenek olabilir. Eğer daha önce Divergent ya da Hunger Games tarzında filmleri sevdiyseniz ve hala bu tarz distopik gençliklere doymadıysanız "Uglies" de bu tarzda sizi kısa süreliğine oyalayabilecek bir yapım olabilir.
